Synergetic Sheds

Located in the Broadmoor neighborhood, the project site is a beautiful acre with unobstructed views of both the city and the Cheyenne Mountains. The existing house, a 1970’s-modern dwelling, is too small to accommodate a family. The concept for the addition literally evolved from its site. To capture the beauty of the mature landscape of the surroundings the house has been envisioned as transparent about multiple axis. A pod-like plan was achieved by a selective removal of certain existing volumes. This immediately established strategic view corridors entirely through the house in both east-west and north-south directions. Maintaining a predominantly low-profile flat roof the addition does not overwhelm the site. Views of the Rocky Mountains are enhanced by a balancing act of two synergistic shed roofs. These sheds capture light and views with clerestory windows.
